Rules For Selling Frequent Flyer Miles

Selling Frequent Flyer Miles
If you like to use your Visa purchases and online orders to accumulate frequent flyer miles, you might be surprised to find out that there are specific regulations for selling frequent flyer miles to other individuals.  Even though these rewards may be yours when you earn them, you may not be able to sell any points you've accumulated to other individuals to take flights by using them.  Does this mean that you're completely without options whenever it comes to selling frequent flyer miles?  Not necessarily.

There are some programmes on the Internet that will set up trades for frequent flyer miles.  If you have accumulated a lot of miles and need to get rid of them before they expire, here are some tips to help you to do so.  Typically, these systems are free to join but you're going to pay a fee anytime that a trade is successfully made.  Even though many of the airline companies, such as Southwest do not allow you to outright sell the points you've accumulated, they may allow you to trade them under specific situations.  This can be a real bonus to you that can help you to dump any of the unused points that you need before they end up expiring.

Typically, you are going to have to trade your frequent flyer miles in a point for point fashion.  For example, if you have 5000 US miles that you want to trade, you are going to need to trade them for 5000 miles in another airline.  There may be some other ways that you can set up a trade, however, that does not involve you getting other miles in return.  This can especially be beneficial if you are trying to get rid of the points because you don't plan on flying at all.  Then instead of selling frequent flyer miles, you can trade them for whatever you can get and sell it.

Even though it may not be totally right, selling frequent flyer miles is definitely against the regulations for many of these companies.  If you feel that you're going to end up selling these miles at some point down the road, make sure that you join a program which allows you to a least trade them if not to sell them outright.  In that way, you will never end up losing the points before you use them.

How You Can Transform Frequent Flyer Miles and Hotel Points They Earn Into Dream Trips of a Lifetime

By Theo Brandt-Sarif
The best free room I ever had? There have been many, but one that comes to mind is the six-night stay my family and I enjoyed at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo. Incredibly, there was no check-in desk. As we entered the hotel, we were ushered straight to our room on the 40th floor by elevator, where we walked through the elegant lobby marveling at the spectacular views over Tokyo. Only after we were situated in our room did a staff person visit us. We signed the necessary paperwork in about 2 minutes—all from the luxury and comfort of the desk in our own room.
